Expense tracker

A free expense tracker you will actually keep using

Most people do not give up on tracking expenses because they stop caring. They give up because the logging takes longer than the spending did. Four taps, a dropdown, a date picker, and a keyboard that covers half the screen while you are standing at a counter.

Casshi cuts that down to one action. Photograph the receipt, say the amount out loud, or type a short line. The category, the date and the amount come back filled in, you confirm, and the entry is in your ledger before you have put your wallet away.

Scan a receipt

Photograph the slip and the amount, date, merchant and category come back filled in. The image is downscaled in your browser before it ever leaves the phone.

Say it out loud

“Twelve hundred on groceries yesterday” becomes a transaction. Useful in a queue, in the car, and anywhere a form is the reason you would have skipped logging it.

Thirteen categories, ready to go

Salary, Groceries, Rent, Transport and the rest are seeded at signup, so your first expense has somewhere sensible to land. Add or rename them whenever you like.

Search that holds up

Filter by category, type or date range, and search descriptions by partial word. A trigram index keeps it quick at thousands of rows.

Synced while you watch

Add an expense on your phone and an open laptop tab updates itself. No refresh, no pull down, no wondering which device has the newer number.

Reads offline

Install it to your home screen and recent transactions stay readable with no signal, so checking what you spent does not depend on having bars.

Why daily expense tracking usually fails

A month of spending is roughly a hundred and twenty small decisions. Track them and the pattern is obvious within a fortnight. Miss a week and the ledger stops being evidence, because you can no longer tell an unusually cheap month from an incompletely recorded one.

That is the real problem an expense tracker has to solve. Not charts, not categories, not a clever monthly summary. It has to make the act of recording a purchase so cheap that you do it while the receipt is still in your hand, on a bad day, in a hurry, standing up.

So the three fastest routes in are the ones we built first. Typing is there when you are sitting down. Voice is there when your hands are busy. The camera is there when the receipt has eleven line items and none of them are worth typing.

What happens to an expense after you save it

It lands in your ledger, and everything downstream updates itself. If the category has a budget this month, the spent figure moves and you get a warning the moment you cross the percentage you chose. If you have reports open in another tab, the charts change there too.

Nothing is copied or cached along the way. Budget spend is calculated from your transactions each time it is read, never stored as a running total. That sounds like an implementation detail, but it is the reason editing a three-week-old expense corrects the budget it belonged to instead of leaving two numbers that disagree.

Every figure you see is therefore derived from one source: the transactions you entered. There is no reconciliation step, and no version of the truth that only the app knows about.

Your records stay yours

Row Level Security is switched on for every table, and each policy compares your session against the row's owner. A request for someone else's transactions comes back empty at the database, not filtered by application code that somebody has to remember to write.

Export is a button, not a support ticket. CSV, JSON and PDF are all in Settings, next to a scoped clear-data option and full account deletion. Signing out on a shared device also wipes the offline cache, so the next person at that laptop cannot scroll your spending.

Built for rupees, honestly

Amounts are handled in Pakistani rupees and formatted to the paisa. There is a currency preference on your profile, but it is not yet applied everywhere in the app, and we would rather tell you that on this page than let you set something that quietly does nothing.

That is the standard for everything claimed here. If a feature is listed, it ships. If it is half done, it is either behind a flag or written about like this.

Getting started

How to start tracking your expenses

Four steps, and the whole thing is done in a single sitting.

  1. 1

    Create a free account

Email and a password, or one tap with Google. Thirteen categories are waiting before you have typed anything.

  2. 2

    Log today's spending

Type it, dictate it, or photograph a receipt. Three or four entries is enough to see how fast it goes.

  3. 3

Bring in what you already have

Import a CSV from your bank or an old spreadsheet. Casshi creates any missing categories as it reads the file.

  4. 4

Set a limit on one category

Pick the category you overspend on, give it a monthly budget, and let the app tell you when you are close.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Short, direct answers, and none of them promise anything the app does not already do.

What is the best way to track daily expenses?

The method you will still be using in three weeks. Most people abandon expense tracking because logging a purchase takes longer than making it. Casshi keeps the whole entry under five seconds by letting you photograph the receipt, dictate the amount, or type into a single short form.

Is this expense tracker free to use?

Yes. The free plan has no card at signup, no expiry, and no trial countdown. It limits how many budgets, savings goals and AI captures you get per month, but tracking expenses itself is not capped.

Can I import my existing expenses from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Settings has a CSV import that creates any category it has not seen before. Rows it cannot read are skipped and counted for you rather than silently dropped or failing the entire file.

How do I find an old transaction?

Filter by category, by income or expense, or by a date range, and search the description field directly. The search is backed by a trigram index, so a partial word still matches and it stays fast once you have thousands of rows.

Does the expense tracker work without internet?

Install it to your home screen and it opens with no signal, with recently loaded transactions still readable. New entries need a connection to save, and balances are always fetched fresh while you are online.

Can I export my expense data?

Any time, from Settings, as CSV, JSON or PDF. There is no export queue and no waiting period, and deleting your account is a button on the same screen.

Track this month, not last month.

Log three expenses and set one budget. That is enough to know by the weekend whether this fits how you actually live.
